A recent offering, the 40 GB PS3 hard drive's main selling point is its low price. But before you rush out and get one just because of the low price tag, you should consider a few things. As far as the 60 GB PS3 hard drive goes, it too has of late become available at a more reasonable price and it also allows for backward compatibility. Of course, you get extra storage capacity as well. It also comes with four USB ports and it compares well with the Xbox 360.
If you want your PS3 to have all the functions of a computer system, think about the 80 GB PS3 hard drive - although it's only available in the United States and doesen't provide complete backwards compatability.
The 40GB PS3 hard drive is for somebody who doesn't have a lot of expectations from their PS3 - and that's the bottom line.
